Get Ready For the Impactful Vegan

Robert Cheeke's upcoming book is set to launch next week, and I'm convinced it's his finest work yet. Having been deeply influenced by "Shred It!" and its companion workout journal, I've followed his literary journey closely. "The Impactful Vegan" promises to guide those already committed to veganism to the next level. For those already vegan, this book will offer invaluable insights into optimizing their lifestyle choices.

Navigating the myriad ways to reduce animal suffering can be overwhelming. Whether through charitable donations, volunteering, supporting vegan businesses, or adopting practices like Meatless Mondays, each of us wields significant power to effect change in animals' lives.

Making Health A Priority

My dad and step mom have been visiting the past week. I went with them as they visited a number of family and friends. One thing I observed is I do not ever want to end up like so many in my family. This is why my healthy whole food plant based lifestyle is a priority.

First of all, my dad has giant cell arteritis. He is on steroids and a monthly injection. He gets tired easily and has to deal with chronic aches and pains. This is an inflammatory condition. My gut instinct is that he could feel a lot better if he were to adapt a plant based lifestyle, but he has no intention of changing.

A Reminder On Why I Am Plant Based

About a month ago, I had my annual physical That included lab work, blood pressure check, listening to my chest with a stethoscope, etc.

Eleven years ago, my physical was very different, asI was morbidly obese and had hypertension. This year, my blood pressure was 110/68 and my lab work was awesome!

It’s Official, Today Marks 5 Years As A Vegan

I still remember my last meal, Chicken Marsala, at a small dinner party celebrating my friend’s birthday. My plan was to start Robert Cheeke’s workout journal, a 13 week workout challenge where you are completely vegan for 13 weeks, the next day. I had done week long challenges before and always thought about how great I felt. I thought 13 weeks would be the ultimate test. Little did I know I would never go back to animal products after that!

I was plant based since 2012, having first started my healthy lifestyle through the work of Dr. Fuhrman. His advice about GBOMBS foods (greens, beans, onions, mushrooms, berries and seeds) is still an important part of my diet. Over the years, I’ve picked up advice from Dr. McDougall, Dr. Gregor and countless others. I think all plant based doctors have something to offer.

6 Mile Walk/Run Tomorrow!

Tomorrow, I am participating in the Tour of the Litchfield Hills event. There are a variety of options to participate. The big part of the event is the bike race. I decided to try the walking event. I chose the option with the most miles, that being 6.2 miles. It goes to a great cause too, as the money they raise goes to the Cancer Care Fund of Litchfield Hills. I was able to raise over $200 for my walk in addition to the entry fee.

Many of you probably remember the swelling I was dealing with a few months back with my knee. I’m happy to report that it has not swelled in a while and it seems to have recovered. I did a lot of physical therapy and I can'’t say enough good things about PT. The therapists get to the root of the problem and they know just what exercises to focus on for healing. I found out my hip flexors were week along with my hamstrings being extremely tight. They exercises to strengthen those areas has helped so much.
