Had My First Physical In Almost Two Years...

I always get nervous when I see the doctor. I don't know why either. I should have been super confident walking in the office today as I know I take good care of my body. I eat the right foods, exercise 5 days a week, get a minimum of 10,000 steps a day, don't smoke, etc. But yet, I always get anxiety over seeing the doctor.

Over four years ago, I avoided the doctor every chance I got. I didn't have a job that required physicals every two years. As a result, I avoided physicals for years. I was severely obese, pre-hypertensive and probably pre-diabetic. I wish I had my lab work done back then. I would have loved to have compared the numbers back then to what they are now! The only thing I can confirm about my health four years ago was that I was pre-hypertensive. When I read the symptoms of pre-diabetes, I'm almost certain I was.

Getting Lean... Body Fat Tested Today!

Today, I went to appointment at the Southern Connecticut State University. They've been checking my body fat percentage with a 7 point caliper test and this was my two month update.

I know I've been working hard... 5 days a week, rarely skipping a workout. I am noticing that my arms, chest and legs are getting stronger and my abs look somewhat tighter than a few months ago. I was fairly confident the numbers would be down. And I was right!

Green Smoothies

I've been eating healthy foods for over three years now. Mostly vegetables and fruit with minimal turkey, chicken and eggs. I do get a lot of nutrients from the food choices I make, but from what I've been reading, making smoothies gives you the ability to absorb even more nutrients. I figured it would be worth a try.

Last week, I made my first smoothie with broccoli and cauliflower. I thought it tasted disgusting, to be honest. I love eating broccoli and cauliflower whole, but juicing them was not a good idea. Maybe it was the way I made them, maybe I didn't add enough ingredients.

Body Fat Percentage Done At SCSU

I decided to try the hydrostatic scale that's offered at Southern Connecticut State University, in their Human Performance Lab. The hydrostatic scale is used to check your weight and how much of the weight is fat versus muscle. In addition, since I was there, I had them do a caliper test for my body fat.

The students that run the lab were very professional and I highly recommend those that want to have their body composition measured to check out SCSU's lab. The two grad students both provided thorough instructions, especially when it came to the hydrostatic scale. This scale requires you to blow out all the air from your lungs, until there's no air left, underneath the water. I didn't care for the test but the technicians were very helpful along the way.

Muscles Are Developing!

My friend took some photos of my work out at the gym this past weekend. I wanted to see if there was any progress visible from all the hard work, with five days a week of strength training!

I think my arms are developing nicely. In fact, I'm surprised how the triceps are starting to show. The skin has tightened a lot in my arms and I feel so much stronger.
