I always get nervous when I see the doctor. I don't know why either. I should have been super confident walking in the office today as I know I take good care of my body. I eat the right foods, exercise 5 days a week, get a minimum of 10,000 steps a day, don't smoke, etc. But yet, I always get anxiety over seeing the doctor.
Over four years ago, I avoided the doctor every chance I got. I didn't have a job that required physicals every two years. As a result, I avoided physicals for years. I was severely obese, pre-hypertensive and probably pre-diabetic. I wish I had my lab work done back then. I would have loved to have compared the numbers back then to what they are now! The only thing I can confirm about my health four years ago was that I was pre-hypertensive. When I read the symptoms of pre-diabetes, I'm almost certain I was.
So, back to my physical from today... I found out I didn't need to be nervous. The physical went awesome! I had lab work done a week ago and my doctor came in and told me the results were all excellent. In fact, he says my cholesterol is better than most people in my age group. My glucose level is also optimal and my triglycerides (the numbers show whether you are eating good or bad) were perfect! He couldn't think of a test I would need, basically saying I was in optimal health.
This is a testament to eating clean and following a diet plan suggested by Dr. Fuhrman. Although I researched many of the foods that I eat on my own, I discovered that many of the foods I eat closely resemble his plan. Dr. Fuhrman believes that salads and veggies should always be the main part of the meal with very little animal products. His followers call themselves Nutritarians, which I do consider myself.
By eating clean, I lost over 150 pounds, reversed high blood pressure, lowered the bad cholesterol, raised the good cholesterol and had excellent glucose readings.
My doctor couldn't think of a thing I needed to change. He told me to continue my exercise plan and my clean eating. He is also OK with my goal of reaching the 10 percent body fat.
Here are a few recent pictures of my arms when working out. Thanks to Jay Torsiello, a professional photographer, for taking the photos. Hopefully, you notice the muscle definition in my arms!
Richard Hubbard was once over 350 pounds. After a doctor's physical and finding out he was pre-hypertensive, he decided to make changes and avoid medication. Over the course of a year, Rich lost the first 120 pounds of his incredible 150 pound weight loss. He ate healthy foods based on Dr. Joel Fuhrman's book "Eat To Live". He was mostly plant based, but switched to completely plant based in September of 2016. He also became a vegan in the process as his compassion for animals increased. He credits bodybuilder Robert Cheeke for influencing his decision of going vegan. Rich aspires to be a vegan bodybuilder and is planning his first half marathon this year.
