I know a lot of people are tired of hearing about "superfoods". It seems like that's all you hear about when you read health related news. But I thought you would like to learn about some of my favorite superfoods that I've been eating daily. I'm certain these foods helped with my weight loss and lowered my blood pressure. Over the next few days I will focus on a different food.
First up is pomegranates. I learned about this fruit when searching the internet for foods that would help to lower blood pressure. This food apparently is as effective in lowering blood pressure as a medication. Another benefit that I read about recently, that everyone will love: pomegranates have the ability to get rid of abdominal fat.
The trouble with pomegranates are that sometimes they are hard to find. A few months ago, I found out that pomegranates are not available all year long, so I had to switch to pomegranate juice. According to Dr. Fuhrman, who has written about the many health benefits of pomegranates, he states that the nutrients are almost identical in the 100 percent fruit juice, minus the fiber. So at least I can still have the benefits of this superfood in a juice until the stores start selling them again.
Of all the new foods I tried over the past year, without a doubt, pomegranates are my favorite. You can put them in salads, in cereal or eat with other fruits. They are a good source of vitamin C too! Give them a try if you can find them. If not, the best alternatives are the 100 percent juice or the arils (the seeds from the inside) that they sometimes sell in packages.
I plan on sharing another food I eat often in my next post but I had to start with pomegranates. The health benefits of this superfood are too great!
