Week 4 Superfood Is… Spinach

Mat, the Fitness Director at the Northwest CT YMCA, chose another food that I eat nearly everyday as the next superfood. Spinach is awesome and should be incorporated in everyone's diet.

Manganese, Vitamin K, Vitamin A, Folate, there are just so many essential vitamins and minerals in this vegetable. It's good raw in the salad or boiled.

I wish that Nickelodeon or another kid's channel would update Popeye. It would be refreshing to see a cartoon that promotes healthy foods for a change!

Maybe more kids would want to eat their vegetables if their favorite cartoon characters promoted them. As many of you know, childhood obesity is a huge problem in this country. The food products that are promoted to kids should offer more nutritional value.

Look at the cereals that are marketed to kids. They entice kids with toys and other prizes, but the cereals are so full of sugar. Not exactly a healthy start to the day!

Take a look at this clip of Popeye. It's a positive message to eat right!
