Planning My Meals As I Get Closer To My Procedure
Plant based foods are important to me now, and they will play an even more important role next month!.
My scheduled abdominoplasty is August 30th. I never in my life thought that I would elect to have surgery, but my loose skin gets irritated and uncomfortable with certain clothing, etc. It's not a vanity surgery although I have to be honest that I hate the way my belly looks too.
I know that my diet will help me heal through the process though. I wish it could help my saggy skin tighten but once skin is stretched beyond a certain limit and for a long period of time, there's no bouncing back no matter how clean someone eats.
I understand that protein is extremely important for healing the body. I plan to eat a lot of quinoa, chick peas and lentils, along with other foods. But I think these plant based proteins specifically will make a big difference in recovery.
As I research foods, I know I need B complex vitamins. These foods in particular help with nerve repair. I know I can get all B complex vitamins from food, with the exception of B12.
Bromelain is also important... I can get that from pineapple. Bromelain is anti-inflammatory and aids in healing after surgery.
I already limit salt, but it's especially important after an abdominoplasty. Salt can cause swelling which I definitely don't need.
One supplement I am considering is arnica. This natural plant based supplement supposedly helps people heal. My doctor recommends it as well. I'll have to read further about it as I'm very careful what I put in my body.
I look forward to when the procedure is done and I can focus on strength training and continuing my health journey. As much as I am nervous (I only had my tonsils out when I was a kid), I know I'll be happy once it's over. My doctor has excellent reviews and I know he will do an awesome job.
