PCRM Exam Room Podcast Live In New York
On Wednesday, July 12, I had the awesome experience of attending the Exam Room podcast live for it's taping while they were in New York City. It was so much fun, and a great opportunity to talk with my plant based peers. I went with my friend Sherri and we both had a blast talking with the podcast host Chuck Carroll, Dr. Neal Barnard, Dr. Michelle McMacken, Dr. Robert Ostfeldt and Rip Esselstyn of PlantStrong.
I haven’t been to many gatherings since COVID, so it was so nice to be out there and without masks once again. The food was awesome too, especially the dessert. All vegan of course!
I had met many of the well known plant based doctors already. I knew Dr. Ostfeldt and Dr. McMacken from previous gatherings. I met Rip at Whole Foods a while back too. But the two people I had not met yet were Dr. Barnard and Chuck Carroll. I really wanted to meet both of them in person. Chuck is like me, having lost a ton of weight and kept it off with a plant based diet. We both have dealt with a lot of food additions. Dr. Barnard is someone I have been following since I started my plant based journey back in 2012. I learned so much from his videos over the years and really wanted to have the chance to thank him.
My friend Anthony Masiello and his wife Kathy were also in attendance. I don't think I’ve seen Anthony since before COVID. It was great to catch up with my fellow plant based athlete. We both were part of the Missing Chins Run Club.
The first couple hours, the crowd gathered for photos with Rip, Chuck, Dr. Barnard... At 8PM, the podcast filming began. The topic was heart disease and how a plant based diet can help reverse or improve the condition once someone is diagnosed with it. I loved hearing how New York hospitals are pushing plant based foods to their clients. This is something that should be done nation wide! Hospitals are notorious for unhealthy foods, and hearing them talk on the stage about New York”s hospitals gave me a lot of hope.
The evening wrapped up with the desserts. My favorite was the chocolate covered strawberries., but everything was great! I hope to do more of these events as they come up.
The event was put together by the Physicians Committee For Responsible Medicine. It was held at Museum of the City of New York.
