You Can Cheat On Your Diet!

I remember when I first started to lose weight. I was very careful about what foods to eat. I'm not saying that I'm not careful now, but I do allow myself a day to cheat on my "diet" every now and then. If you don't cheat on your diet once in a while, I think you will be more likely to go back into your old habits. I say the word diet but I still am not comfortable calling the way I eat a diet... I eat healthier foods dailly but it's more of a lifestyle change than a diet.

I was recently on vacation. It's hard to find healthy foods away from home. I did bring a lot of walnuts, almonds, protein bars and fruit, but still, I did not eat totally healthy. I did allow myself dessert one day last week as I had a piece of chocolate cream pie. It was a lighter version with low fat whipped cream. Surprisingly, it was enough to satisfy my sweet tooth. This coming from someone that used to eat a half a gallon of ice cream a day!

A few months ago, I wouldn't allow myself to cheat. Now I realize, as long as I exercise, I'm not going to gain weight. Just allow yourself a food you're craving once in a while. It's hard to go on vacation and not eat a lot. I ended up overdoing the portion size at Olive Garden during the vacation. But I know this is not an everyday thing so it worked out fine.

A popular misconception about me is that I don't eat enough. My dad was shocked at how much food I can eat at this weight. I do eat a lot of small frequent meals, but I have healthier foods like apples, nuts, etc. All my dad would eat were three meals, and they were small portions. I could not eat like that as my metabolism is faster now and I need more food!

If your trying to lose weight, try not to stress when you eat the wrong food every now and then. As long as you have healthy daily habits of eating the right foods, one day won't hurt you.
